Sometimes breaking up is hard to do.

Booted reality TV dad Jon Gosselin demanded that TLC halt production of the new version of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" -- which excludes him from the cast -- or face potential criminal charges. The network said it has suspended filming.

"Effective immediately, no production crews are to enter Jon's family home for any reason," a letter from Gosselin's attorney said according to CBS News

"In the event that anyone enters the marital property, Jon Gosselin will notify the local authorities to effectuate police action against any trespassers."

Both Jon and Kate own the sprawling $1.1 million in Pennsylvania where the show is filmed, his attorney said.

TLC fired back at Jon this afternoon and called his behavior "erratic."

"He and the family were shooting as recently as last Friday, without incident, and his latest comments are grossly inaccurate, without merit and are clearly opportunistic," the network said in a statement to Usmagazine.com.

"Despite Jon Gosselin's repeated self destructive and unprofessional actions, he remains under an exclusive contract with TLC."

The pair of letters filed on behalf of Jon were dated the same day the cable network made its blockbuster announcement that the popular reality show would be renamed "Kate Plus Eight" and primarily focus on Jon's soon-to-be-ex wife Kate and their eight kids.

"Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family," said Eileen O'Neill, TLC's president and general manager.

"Jon's going to be involved in the show."

Jon found out about his downsized role in the family's reality show the same way most Gosselin fans did -- the news, his attorney said. The octodad, issuing a public apology to his scorned ex, also tried to stall their divorce for 90 days.

"I regret my conduct since Kate and I separated," he said. "I used poor judgment in publicly socializing with other women so soon."

TLC has not yet commented.
