Shortly after Barnes & Noble announced the shuttering of its massive Lincoln Center location, so began the usual rumors and guesses over what new retailer would fill the four-story, 61,000 square-foot space. Yesterday we reported on the speculation that 1972 Broadway would soon be home to a second Century 21 location, and today it's been confirmed.

Cushman & Wakefield, the brokerage firm for the real estate deal, released a press statement earlier today announcing that following Barnes & Noble's closure this January, Century 21 would indeed take possession of the space, with the intentions of hosting a grand opening by fall of 2011.

This will be the second Manhattan location for the designer-discount department store, which has resided downtown near the World Trade Center for the past 50 years (and arguably offering one of the few reasons to shop in the otherwise retail-deficient area), making it a welcome—if not slightly manic—addition to the Upper West Side's growing lineup of soon-to-open chain stores, including Trader Joe's and an Apple store.
