Gary Oldman Eying “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”

The part of MI6 agent George Smiley, author John LeCarre's greatest invention, is getting adapted again, with Gary Oldman in talks to lead what could be a great cast.

Oldman has been meeting with "Let the Right One In" director Thomas Alfredson about his upcoming film version of LeCarre's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," reported The Daily Mail, with Colin Firth, Michael Fassbender and David Thewlis possibly leading the supporting cast.

Alec "Obi-Wan" Guinness in 1979 played George Smiley to great acclaim in the BBC's seven-part adaptation of the story of Agent Smiley, a man who appears painfully normal and at times bumbling, but possesses a keen mind that is always spinning furiously. Think Columbo if he were a proper English gentleman.

LeCarre has been working on the script with screenwriter Peter Morgan for more than a year now, and Alfredson hopes shooting will begin in September.
