On March 9, 1997, rapper Biggie Smalls (aka The Notorious B.I.G.) left a Vibe Magazine after partywith his entourage, including Sean "Puffy" Combs. Biggie's car was stopped at a red light when a black Chevy Impala pulled up. The driver rolled down his window, drew a 9 mm blue-steel pistol and fired, putting four bullets into Biggie's the chest. He was pronounced dead later that evening. Theories behind the motive vary, but the most popular involves a bi-coastal feud with rapper Tupac Shakur.

Raise your glass: “Brooklyn’s Mayor,” the Notorious B.I.G., will be honored on Wednesday, March 9, the 14th anniversary of his death.

The Hip-Hop Honors Notorious B.I.G. Tribute, held March 9 at Santos’ Party House, features performances from such hip-hop notables as Raekwon, Easy Mo Bee, Esquire, Pharoahe Monch, and more. Organizers promise an overlapping “Vh1 Honors”-style roster of cover songs and collaborations.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation, the charity for inner-city youth developed by Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace. Doors open at 10pm and tickets start at $20.
