    BUGGING OUT: New School anthropology prof Hugh Raffles knows bugs—he’s written “The Insectopedia” (Knopf), an A-Z of our relationship to creepy-crawlies that’s racking up critical praise all over the place. Raffles comes to McNally Jackson Books to talk shop, discussing deep issues like why are there so many amateur insect collectors in Japan? And how do those bug fetishes work? 7PM.

    PAWS UP: Sheryl Matthys, the woman behind Leashes and Lovers, the social community-cum-dating site for dog people, launches her book “Leashes and Lovers: What Your Dog Can Teach You About Love, Life, and Happiness” tonight with a bash at Blvd. on the Bowery featuring dog stunts, a k-9 fashion show, and a cozy set by folky soul singer Toby Lightman, Two-and four-legged guests welcome. 7PM. 

    CRUNCH: Pretty soon the greenmarket will be teeming with farm-fresh produce, and that’s when it’ll hit you: The itch to pickle. Bob McClure of culty locavore outfit McClure's Pickles comes to the Brooklyn Kitchen Labs to run down the science of how vinegar + spices + veg = awesomeness. You’ll get hands-on experience and you’ll take home a jar of your tasty, tasty work. 6:30-8PM; also on April 5 and 26.
