Williamsburg let out a collective shudder today when news struck that a Starbucks will likely litter Bedford Avenue with its Venti coffees and cafe imperialism. While it's frustrating to locals who love easy access to both indie Brooklyn and Manhattan, gentrification isn't always a bad thing. Would so many young, stylish people want hang out in a dirty, dangerous 'hood lacking artisanal pizza and free WiFi? Probably not. It's just nice to catch neighborhoods when they're on the cusp.
