Paul Pierce Cuffed by Vegas Cops

NBA Finals MVP briefly detained

LAS VEGAS - Cops slapped handcuffs on NBA star Paul Pierce during a weekend traffic stop on the Las Vegas Strip, but released him without issuing a summons. The Boston Celtics player was handcuffed briefly after emerging "a little agitated" from a vehicle he was driving when police stopped him about 3 a.m. Sunday on Las Vegas Boulevard near Tropicana Avenue, police said. The 6-foot-7, 235 pound guard-forward was given field sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer, which registered below the 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level for driving in Nevada. Cops didn't release the test result, but officials said Pierce, the MVP of the 2008 NBA Finals, wasn't arrested and wasn't issued a summons. A valet was called to drive Pierce's car, and the six-time NBA all-star took a cab back to where he was staying. The Celtics and Pierce's agent had no immediate comment Monday.
