ESPN's Keith Olbermann ripped Derek Jeter in a 7-minute rant Tuesday, saying the future Yankees hall-of-famer is "not the greatest person in human history," much less the best to grace the diamond.

"Contrary to what you have heard, Derek Jeter is not the greatest person in human history. He did not invent baseball, he did not discover electricity, he is not the greatest shortstop who ever lived," Olbermann said at the top of his show Tuesday. "And among all the terrific players in the history of the New York Yankees is his not by any measure, number one."

Olbermann said people younger than 40 never saw the Yankees win a league championship without Jeter and the 40-year-old shortstop has always been at the forefront of their sports worlds. But, "objects in the sideview mirror may actually be smaller than they appear," he said.

Olbermann called Jeter "an excellent long-serving player, but nowhere near an immortal," and blasted the days-long -- even months-long -- send-off the all-star player has received.

The ESPN host also criticized Jeter's offensive and defensive statistics, pointed out he never won an MVP award and said that if Jeter had asked to be moved down in the lineup or benched himself at various points this year, the Yankees might be in the playoffs.

Other outlets have given the Captain a more friendly send-off.
