Elder Bush Backs Romney for President

Mitt Romney scored an unofficial endorsement Thursday from former President George H. W. Bush, who told the Houston Chronicle Romney was “the best choice” among Republicans and the “most electable.” In a dig at former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Bush said Romney was “mature and reasonable – not a bomb thrower.” Bush said he liked Rick Perry “but he doesn’t seem to be going anywhere,” and he didn’t believe Ron Paul could win the nomination. Romney told Politico Bush’s surprise show of support showed “growing momentum” for his campaign. “I must admit this is much more important to me personally than even politically,” Romney said after calling the former president between campaign stops in New Hampshire.
