A homeless man who accidentally shot himself at Zabar's Tuesday morning claims he found the gun while going through cartons near the Lincoln Tunnel, police said.
Authorities got a call about a man who had shot himself inside the iconic Upper West Side grocery store at about 10 a.m., according to the NYPD.
When police got there, the man who shot himself had left.
Police said that he turned up at Roosevelt Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The man, who's homeless, told police he found the gun while going through cartons near the Lincoln Tunnel. He went to the store, ordered a bagel and coffee, and when he reached into his pocket, the gun went off, according to witnesses.
The man was being treated at the hospital. It's not clear if he will face charges.
