A bystander was shot at a child’s party in Brooklyn after somebody dropped their gun, sending shots flying all over the venue, police say.
Officials say a 62-year-old woman was shot in the leg at the birthday party at an event space on Coney Island Avenue in Kensington around 7:30 Sunday night, however, she was not the intended target.
Police say the suspected gunman dropped his gun and a round discharged, which ended up striking the woman.
She was taken to an area hospital, where she is in stable condition, according to authorities. Her injury is not considered life-threatening.
One witness described a bloody scene and a panicked victim.
“We were passing through there and there was a lot of blood on the floor," the witness said. "She was crying a lot."
The gunman ran away from the scene after picking up the gun, police said. No description was given. He is still being sought by police.
