A United Nations employee has been arrested and charged with possessing child pornography, federal officials said today.
Jose Antonio Ortega-Osona, a Spanish national, was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday by federal agents.
He is due to be arraigned in federal court later tonight on one count of possessing child pornography transported in interstate and foreign commerce.
Ortega-Osona, 40, is accused of possessing both still images and videos of child pornography on computer equipment in his Manhattan home, the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement said.
A federal complaint said Ortega-Osona worked in the Fertility Division of the United Nations and was living in New York on a Visa. He was first arrested in a Canadian airport in April after officers found a USB flash drive containing images of child pornography, including photos of young girls having intercourse with an older male, the complaint said.
Federal officials in New York obtained a search warrant for Ortega-Osona’s Manhattan apartment where they found a laptop containing “numerous” images and videos of child pornography, the complaint said.
