Man, Woman Killed in Head-on Crash on Long Island, Police Say

A man and a woman were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Long Island, authorities said.

Olvin Jimenez, 39, was driving a Toyota Corolla south on Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday when he lost control of the car, crossed into the northbound lane and was struck by a Toyota RAV4, police said. 

Jimenez and his front seat passenger Erica Jimenez-Mejia, also 39, were both pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. 

Two children, a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old, were sitting in the back seat of the Corolla at the time of the crash and were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries, police said. 

The 21-year-old driver of the Toyota RAV4, a 17-year-old passenger and a 73-year-old passenger were taken to Southside Hospital with injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening, according to police. 

After the crash, Crooked Hill Road was closed in both directions between the Long Island Expressway and the Sagtikos State Parkway, but had reopened as of 6 p.m. 

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is ongoing.
