Toddler Leaves Home at Night, Found Dead in Snow

Young girl had snuck out once before

A young girl was found dead in the snow early Wednesday morning after she apparently snuck outside in the overnight cold.

Three-year-old Casandra Weronick was found dead in a snow bank almost a mile from her home in Sullivan County. The newspaper deliveryman found her cold body at about 7 a.m., with only a T-shirt and a diaper.

The girl's parents said Casandra had snuck out in the middle of the night once before, but Douglas and Lisa Weronick found her before she encountered any danger.

Investigators are interviewing the parents, but they said it's a case of a tragic accident and not one of criminal neglect.
