Police are looking for a well-dressed thief who stole $90,000 from an unlocked safe at a service station in Westchester last week.

A man in a driving cap and dress clothes went into to the USA Service Pro Auto Shop on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains and stole the cash, police say.

Police say that the man went to the shop at about 9 a.m. on March 18 and hung around until no one was in the office. Then he walked in and grabbed the cash from the open safe.

He left less than a minute later.

"It's a lot of money involved, which I have to pay to the gas company," said owner Gene Mjshtri.

Mjshtri and his workers were busy serving other customers while the thief struck. He was near tears as he spoke about the burglary.

"When you work 14 hours a day and someone comes and violates you that way, you get emotional," he said.

Mjshtri said the gas station will survive through hard work and a caring community.

"I'm healthy. I'm still alive. I'm going to make that money. Thank God my customers are all loyal customers," he said.

The theft was originally reported in The Journal News.

Anyone with information about the thief is asked to call the White Plains Police Detective Division at 914-422-6200 or 914-422-6223.
