A National Weather Service team is investigating whether a tornado touched down in the Binghamton area Sunday.
A line of severe thunderstorms brought high winds and lashing rain Sunday evening to the rural town of Sidney, about 30 miles northeast of Binghamton.
After witnesses reported a funnel cloud touching down, a team from the weather service is heading to Sidney on Monday to determine whether it was a tornado.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage after the storm.
The storm comes less than two weeks after a tornado ripped through the Southern Tier city of Elmira.
