NYPD helicopter and harbor crews rescued a man in a kayak that was taking on water Saturday morning about two miles off the coast of Staten Island, police said.
The kayaker called 911 for help and told police he had hooked a large fish and was struggling to reel it in when he kayak began to sink.
A police helicopter crew soon spotted him.
Two police scuba divers then raced out in a boat to the location and brought the 33-year-old kayaker to shore at Kingsborough Community College, where they were met by emergency medical technicians. The man declined medical treatment.
Police also retrieved the man's kayak.
