Authorities say a man has died after he was struck by a car while crossing a street on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say Salvatore Contessa was hit by a Honda Accord around 10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Route 110 and North Drive in Amityville.

The 51-year-old Contessa was pronounced dead at a hospital. The 23-year-old driver was not injured.

Police impounded the vehicle for a safety. They say the investigation is ongoing.

No charges have been filed.
