Court Lets NYC Taxi E-Hailing Proceed, For Now

New York City's experiment with taxi-hailing smartphone apps is getting back in gear, at least for now.
 
An appeals court order Thursday lifted a temporary ban on the "e-hail'' service for yellow cabs. It now can resume while the overall appeal case plays out.
 
Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the court order will promote innovation and provide another way to hail cabs. A lawyer for e-hail opponents, Randy Mastro, says they're disappointed but expect to prevail in getting the appeals court to end the program.

In December, the city OK'd a yearlong test. Car service owners sued. They say it's unfair to them because they rely on pre-arranged fares, among other arguments.
 
A judge dismissed their lawsuit in April. They then appealed.
 
Uber Technologies has launched e-hail service in New York.
