A woman who was inside an elevator as it dropped three floors was rescued Wednesday afternoon. Checkey Beckford reports.

A woman was rescued after the elevator she was in dropped three floors and crashed into a basement in Manhattan on Wednesday, fire officials said.

The woman got onto the elevator at 19 Sutton Place South on the East Side around 4:15 p.m.

The elevator suddenly malfunctioned, falling three stories and landing at the bottom of the elevator shaft in the basement, officials said.

The woman was rescued from the elevator and taken to Cornell Medical Center with minor injuries.

It’s unclear if she was trapped in the elevator or couldn’t get out because of her injuries.

Police and the Buildings Department were at the scene as an investigation into the elevator drop continued Wednesday evening.
