Authorities say a woman firefighters rescued from a burning building in Newark has died.
Acting Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose says firefighters found the 61-year-old woman in cardiac arrest in a third floor apartment. They took her to a hospital where she died about 45 minutes later. It happened Monday evening.
Ambrose says the woman did not live at the three-family house. Her identity is being withheld until her family is notified. An autopsy is to be held.
The fire began shortly before 5:30 p.m. on the third floor of the building and was brought under control a half hour later. Nine occupants have been relocated.
Ambrose commended firefighters for attempting to resuscitate the woman.
