New York Doctor Admits Taking $400K in Bribes From Medical Lab

A New York doctor has pleaded guilty in a long-running bribes-for-test referrals scheme.

Ricky Sayegh's guilty plea in federal court in New Jersey Thursday made him the 45th person convicted in the scheme involving the now-defunct Parsippany-based Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services.

Prosecutors say Sayegh, of Scarsdale, admitted that he took about $400,000 in bribes to refer patients blood specimens there.

The scheme involved millions of dollars in bribes and resulted in more than $100 million in payments to BLS from Medicare and various private insurers.

The company pleaded guilty last June and forfeited its remaining assets.
