A Long Island elementary school custodian is accused of possessing child pornography.
Suffolk County prosecutors say 44-year-old Shawn Mead admitted having approximately 20 images and videos compiled over several years of young children engaged in sexual activity. They said the images were kept on his home computer.
Police said the Patchogue resident worked at the Lincoln Avenue Elementary School in Sayville. He surrendered to police early Tuesday.
He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip. Bail was set at $5,000. Prosecutors had sought $200,000. Defense attorney Jason Bassett said Mead expected to post bail and be released.
Bassett said Mead worked the overnight shift and had no contact with children at the school.
His next court date is Oct. 17.
