Pfc. Leroy Deronde III was killed May 27 when his unit was attacked

The Department of Defense announced Saturday that a New Jersey soldier was killed in action in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Leroy Deronde III, 22, of Jersey City was killed May 27 when his unit was attacked by enemy forces in the Chak-E Warkdak District.
 
Deronde was assigned to the 125th Brigade Support Batallion, 3rd Brigade Combay Team, 1st Armored Division out of Fort Bliss, Texas.
 
According to his Facebook page, he graduated from William L. Dickinson High School in Jersey City in 2009.
