Tenant Poured Gasoline in Brooklyn Building Stairwell, Triggering Deadly Blast: FDNY

Fire officials in New York City say a tenant used gasoline to trigger an explosion at a Brooklyn building that killed her and another resident in October.

The FDNY says 47-year-old Francisca Figueroa poured gasoline in the stairwell of the three-story building in Borough Park. Investigators are still trying to determine a motive.

Officials initially explored natural gas from a stove as a possible cause of the explosion, but they shifted their focus to other fuel sources.

Attempts to reach several people listed as Figueroa's relatives were unsuccessful. Calls to their homes and cellphones were not answered.

Tenant Ligia Puello also died in the fire. Three passersby were injured.
