More than a dozen stores in Toms River, New Jersey, were evacuated Monday after contractors hit a 2-inch gas main, utility officials say.
According to NJ Natural Gas, the workers hit the main on Route 166 shortly before 1 p.m. The road was closed between Crab and Admiral roads.
No injuries were reported. Gas crews remained on scene through the afternoon.
