Celebrities, Politicians React to Tribeca Terror Attack

A 29-year-old Uzbek national, identified as Sayfullo Saipov, drove a Home Depot rental pickup truck at least 10 blocks down the popular West Side Highway bike path from West Houston to Chambers streets, hitting nearly a dozen pedestrians. Eight people were killed.

Josh Groban, Sam Smith and Ellen DeGeneres were among many celebrities who are sending their support and condolences following Tuesday’s terror attack in Tribeca that left 8 people dead and nearly a dozen more injured.

A truck driver deliberately mowed down people and targeted a school bus around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Authorities said the driver, identified by sources as 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, is thought to be a “lone actor” in the attack. Saipov is an Uzbek national living in New Jersey, officials said.

Singer Josh Groban was a mere half a block away and heard the gunfire.

President Trump and other politicians, meanwhile, tweeted their support for New York amid the tragedy. Mayor de Blasio called the incident an “act of terror.”

Hollywood stars and famous musicians also expressed their solidarity with New Yorkers and showed sympathy for those directly affected by the attack.

The NYPD and FBI are asking anyone with information about Tuesday's attack should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or the FBI's tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
