Water Main Break Sends Water Gushing Into Bronx Streets

A water main break sent water gushing down the street in Bedford Park Tuesday morning. Ida Siegal reports.

A water main break in the Bronx sent water gushing into the roads Tuesday morning, and has left around 100 homes and several businesses without water, authorities say.

It's not clear what caused the main break on 198th Street in the Bedford Park section at around 7 a.m. Chopper 4 over the scene captured streets overflowing with water.

Crews were on the scene digging into the road to try to find the source of the break. The city Department of Environmental Protection has shut off water in the meantime, leaving about 100 homes and eight businesses without water for hours.

The main was repaired and water was restored to the area at about 6:30 p.m., according to the DEP.
