A New Jersey man faces animal cruelty charges after authorities removed 17 dogs from his home, police said Sunday.
Officers responding to a complaint about dogs barking went to the Keyport home around 9 p.m. Saturday and saw rotting garbage and hundreds of flies on the window, police said.
Nobody was inside the home, so officers waited until the homeowner returned, police said. Animal control officers and the SPCA were notified.
All 17 dogs are in poor condition, SPCA authorities said. The man, whose identity wasn’t released by police, will be charged with animal cruelty.
A veterinarian in Eatontown will give the dogs a health check.
Police said they had no prior contact with the owner of the home.
