Woman Slips By Security At Trump Tower, Makes it to 24th Floor: NYPD

A 31-year-old woman slipped through tight security at Trump Tower and made it to 24th floor of the skyscraper where President-elect Donald Trump lives and works, the NYPD said.

The emotionally disturbed woman was able to get into the heavily guarded building through a residential entrance before going up two dozen floors. She was then stopped by the Secret Service and taken back to the main lobby, according to the NYPD.

After she was deemed not to be a threat, she was taken to New York-Presbyterian's Weill Cornell Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. She's not expected to face charges.

The floor the woman made it to is two floors below where Trump conducts his business. He and his wife Melania live in a penthouse on the top three floors.

The security breach came days before Mayor de Blasio announced that he was going to ask the federal government for $35 million to cover costs incurred by the city and NYPD securing the East 56th Street skyscraper.

Security measures include a round-the-clock NYPD detail, barricades, traffic barriers, airport-style screening and road closures.

Despite the measures, the tower's public spaces, offices and residences have remained open. Neighboring retailers have kept their doors open, too, but some complained that all the extra security was hurting the bottom line.
