Man Stabbed at Washington Square Park Was Breaking Up Fight: Officials

A 47-year-old man was stabbed near Washington Square Park on Thursday night as he tried to break up some sort of fight, officials said. 

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is expected to survive after the stabbing about 8 p.m. on Washington Square South. The man was stabbed in the left leg by an unknown man, according to police.

It wasn't clear who was fighting or what they were fighting about, but the victim was trying to break it up when he was slashed. 

Several NYPD vehicles were seen at the scene with their lights on. An area near the park had also been cordoned off. 

No arrests have been made.
