Thunderstorm Watch, Flash Flood Warnings in Effect

The thunderstorm watch includes most counties in the metropolitan area

A thunderstorm watch is in effect for most of the tri-state area until 11 p.m.

The watch includes most counties in the metropolitan area, with the exception of Monmouth, Ocean and Suffolk counties in New Jersey.

High winds and golf ball-sized hail blanketed parts of New Jersey Monday afternoon. In Sussex County, the storm knocked out power to Newton Medical Center when a bolt of lightning struck an electric transformer behind the 146-bed facility.

The hospital's back-up generator immediately kicked in and restored power, according to officials. Crews were repairing the blown transformer and regular electric service was expected to return by Monday night.

All three area airports showed delays Monday afternoon as thunderstorms caused planes to reroute.
