Hundreds of Thousands of People Fled New Jersey Last Year, Census Data Show

But nearly 51,000 people living in New York moved to New Jersey

Census data show 227,000 residents put New Jersey in their rearview mirrors last year. 

The loss in population was tempered by a gain of more than 62,000 immigrants, mainly from Asia. 

The 2015 American Community Survey found most of the New Jerseyans who left headed to Pennsylvania or New York, according to NJ.com

Nearly 51,000 people living in New York moved to New Jersey.
