Police: Suspect Surrenders in New Jersey Slashing

Aggravated assault and weapons charges were filed against 38-year-old Che Gomez

A man accused of slashing another person at a northern New Jersey home has surrendered after a brief standoff at the residence.

Aggravated assault and weapons charges were filed against 38-year-old Che Gomez, who was arrested without incident at the Clifton home around 6:15 a.m. Sunday.

The Record reports the Passaic County SWAT team surrounded the house because authorities initially feared Gomez had taken a hostage. But authorities soon learned he was alone in the house.

Clifton police initially responded to the home late Saturday night after the slashing occurred. The victim suffered significant slash wounds to his face and torso, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.

Gomez apparently fled the home on foot after the slashing, but then returned around 3 a.m. Sunday.
