Police: Couple Used Tree Inspection Scam To Hide Theft

A couple lured a Long Island homeowner into her yard by claiming to be tree inspectors, then used the distraction to sneak into the home and steal jewelry, police said Saturday.

The 46-year-old man and 37-year-old woman approached the East Farmingdale home on Friday morning and told the woman they needed to look at her trees that were hanging into her neighbor's yard, according to Suffolk County police.While one stayed with her in the rear yeard, the other went into the house, police said.

Both were arrested on charges of burglary and criminal possession of stolen property, police said. It wasn't immediately clear if the two had lawyers.
