No Criminality in New Jersey Blast That Eviscerated 2 Homes, Prosecutors Say

Prosecutors say they found no indications that criminality was involved after two multifamily New Jersey homes were destroyed in an explosion last week shortly after firefighters arrived to investigate a possible gas leak. 

The Passaic County prosecutor's office said Thursday it's closing its investigation into the Paterson explosion, according to NJ.com

Prosecutors say the scene has been turned over to insurance companies and others. 

The utility Public Service Electric & Gas says its investigation remains ongoing. 

No residents were hurt in the blast, but 38 people were either displaced or left homeless. Authorities have said 10 firefighters were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. 

A third home that was damaged had to be razed. A dozen other buildings were also damaged.
