No Charges for School Safety Agent in Thwarted Robbery

Off-duty TBTA officer wounded in gun battle with four robbers.

An off-duty school safety agent who grabbed a gun from a wounded New York City police officer during an attempted robbery will not be charged.

Eugene Pitts was cleared by the Brooklyn district attorney's office, reports the Daily News. Pitts was not licensed to carry a gun.

The incident occurred inside a Brooklyn auto shop on Saturday night.

Police say the wounded officer was shot in the shoulder when four men tried to rob the business. The officer worked for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police charged two men with attempted murder, robbery and aggravated assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Two other suspects remain at large.
