New Jersey Woman Killed by Car Backing Out of Driveway, Police Say

A woman in a New Jersey town was killed after a car backing out of a driveway struck her, according to published reports.

Oakland police say 38-year-old Nora Kohlash was hit Wednesday around 9:45 a.m. while the driver backed out of a driveway on Thackery Road.

The Record reports Kohlash died at the scene and the driver, who has not been identified by police, has been issued a summons for careless driving.

Police Lt. Christian Eldridge says Kohlash was hit twice by the car, with an initial impact knocking her to the ground. Eldridge says the driver pulled the vehicle forward and back into the driveway. When the vehicle "rolled backward out of the driveway" again, it pinned Kohlash underneath.
