A New Jersey man was charged Saturday with fatally strangling his live-in girlfriend.
Ignacio Ortiz, 40, of Rahway, faces a murder charge in connection with the death of 27-year-old Yury Cruz, police said. He was jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.
Police responded to the Jacques Avenue home where the couple lived at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday and found Cruz unresponsive, investigators said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for this week.
There was no information as to whether Ortiz has an lawyer who could comment on the charges.
