NJ Company to Pay $17.1 Million to Resolve Bribery Charges

Justice Department officials say a New Jersey-based construction management company has agreed to pay $17.1 million to resolve charges it bribed foreign officials to gain government contracts.

Authorities said Friday Morristown-based Louis Berger International will pay the penalty after the company reported to officials a scheme in which senior executives bribed officials in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Kuwait.

Officials say the company entered into a deferred prosecution agreement on Friday and admitted criminal conduct.

From 1998 to 2010 the company and some of its workers orchestrated $3.9 million in bribes to foreign officials to gain government contracts.

Two former senior vice presidents also pleaded guilty to conspiracy and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act charges in the scheme.
