Straphanger Hurt After Falling on Subway Tracks: FDNY

A straphanger fell off a subway platform on the Upper East Side Friday afternoon, landing on the tracks before bystanders rescued him, fire officials say.

The commuter, who was seen walking with the use of a cane earlier, was waiting at the 77th Street and Lexington Avenue station at about 2:30 p.m. when he fell, the FDNY says.

He was rescued by other subway riders and lifted the bleeding man back to the platform. Emergency responders took the man to New York Hospital, where he's listed in serious condition.

It's not clear what caused the man to fall.
