Man Falls 125 Feet from New Jersey Cliffs

Rappel teams worked for nearly three hours to rescue the victim

A man was rescued after falling about 125 feet off a cliff on the Palisades Parkway in New Jersey Sunday evening, officials said.

Rappel teams worked for nearly three hours to rescue the Chestnut Ridge, N.Y., man near the base of a cliff around 6:30 p.m., according to the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police. 

Authorities said he was "alert and conscious."

He was taken to the hospital with several traumatic injuries,  but is expected to survive.

A relative said the 45-year-old man had veered off a marked trail and fallen.
