Man Set Fire to Occupied Long Island Bar: Police

The man tossed an accelerant into the bar and set it ablaze, police say

A Long Island man accused of setting fire to a bar with a dozen people inside has been arrested, Nassau County police say.

Alec Sapounas, 60, was charged Thursday with second-degree arson and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Police have accused him of tossing some sort of flammable material into Phat Daddy's bar in Oceanside before igniting it Sept. 17. None of the people inside the bar were injured, but the accelerant caused a large fire.

Sapounas will be arraigned Friday in Hempstead. It's not known whether he has an attorney.
