NY Suit: Law Firm Fired Me After Cancer Leave

The former finance chief of a major New York-based law firm says she was demoted and then fired after taking sick leave to fight breast cancer.

Elly Rosenthal filed a $10 million discrimination suit Wednesday against Proskauer Rose LLP. A firm spokesman didn't immediately respond to phone and email messages.

The 57-year-old accountant says she got only good reviews during 16 years as Proskauer's chief financial officer. She says problems started after she took three months off to recover from breast cancer surgery in 2008.

She says she was knocked down to a newly created, lesser job, replaced as CFO by a less qualified man and even shunted off to an office eight blocks away from the firm's New York headquarters.

She says she was then abruptly fired last March.
