Girl, 12, Dies After “Joyride” Crash on Bruckner Expressway

A 12-year-old girl has died after a traffic accident on New York's Bruckner Expressway that may have been caused by an underage driver.

Police say Kaitlin Booth, of the Bronx, was ejected from an SUV as it crashed through a fence. She was taken to Jacobi Hospital where she died.

Police are questioning a 15-year-old who may have taken the family car out for a joyride and crashed it early Tuesday.

Cops responded to a 911 call of an overturned car in the southbound lanes at Baisley Avenue at about midnight. They found a 2003 GMC Envoy on its side and Booth lying on the ground.

No arrests have been made, but cops say charges are pending. Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.

The driver was not seriously injured. The driver remained at the scene and the accident is under investigation, police say.
