De Blasio on Track for Crushing Election Victory: NBC 4 New York / Marist Poll

Mayor Bill de Blasio is on track to crush his Republican opponent, Nicole Malliotakis, as he enjoys his highest job approval rating in more than two years, according to the new NBC 4 New York / Marist Poll released Tuesday.

Among likely voters, including undecideds leaning one way or another, De Blasio leads Malliotakis 65 percent to 18 percent. Independent Bo Dietl draws 8 percent support.

"A lot of words can be used to characterize this matchup currently -- overwhelming, substantial, landslide, lopsided," Lee M. Miringoff, director of The Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, said in a statement. "Unfortunately, for Malliotakis, they all describe de Blasio’s chances for re-election."

The poll found De Blasio's favorability rating is 35 points higher than Malliotakis. Two-thirds of those polled said they have never heard of her or don't know how to rate her.

The mayor's approval rating now stands at 44 percent, five points better than March and his best rating since May 2015.

Marist surveyed 1,195 New York City adults from Sept. 13 to 17, including 451 likely voters. The margin of error for likely voters was 4.6 percentage points.
