Car accident on West Side Highway Monday

A car ended up on the side of the West Side Highway and burst into flames after a bad accident, shutting down a part of the roadway late Monday morning.

It's not clear what caused a sedan to go off the southbound highway near West 79th Street. FDNY was on the scene.

NBC meteorologist Al Roker posted video of the flaming car, apparently turned in the opposite direction of travel with two other cars piled up near it.

There was no immediate word on injuries.
