Buffalo Man in Standoff With Cops Charged in Weekend Slaying

A 44-year-old man taken into custody after a standoff in Buffalo has been charged in the fatal shooting of another man over the weekend.

Buffalo police say 28-year-old Nicholas Jozens of suburban Williamsville was hit by gunfire around 4:30 a.m. Saturday at an intersection in the city. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

About seven hours later, officers responded to a report of a man with a gun barricaded inside a building near the scene of the shooting. Police surrounded the building and Victor Irizarry surrendered about two hours later.

He has been charged with second-degree murder. Irizarry is being held Monday morning in the Erie County Jail. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

Information on what led to the shooting hasn't been released.
