Brooklyn PTA President Accused of Stealing $14,000 From School

A 45-year-old Parent Teacher Association president in Brooklyn has been arrested for allegedly stealing $14,000 from the school account, police said.

Suzanne Olney was arrested outside her home Tuesday afternoon and charged with grand larceny.

Police allege she transferred funds from a school PTA account on four different occasions into her personal account; the amount totaled $14,000.

When confronted about the missing money, Olney transferred $10,000 back into the school account, authorities say, but $4,000 remains unaccounted for.

"While PTA members are not school employees, they are part of the school community," Jason Fink, a spokesman for the Department of Education, said in a statement. "The alleged misconduct is deeply disappointing and betrays the trust the PS 216 school community placed in her. We are cooperating with the NYPD on their investigation."

Information on an attorney for Olney wasn't immediately available.
