Brooklyn Brewer Wins Top Honors in 1st NY Craft Beer Competition

A Brooklyn brewer has earned top honors in the first-ever New York State Craft Beer Competition.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday that Threes Brewing won the Governor's Excelsior Cup.

The governor said the brewer's pilsner, called "Vliet," earned gold in the Light Lager category and moved on to win Best in Show.

The official New York State Fair competition is sponsored by the New York State Brewers Association. Nearly 40 judges sampled over 700 entries. It was open to any craft brewer located in the State.

War Horse Brewing Company of Geneva took home gold, silver and bronze medals, the most medals won by one brewery.

Good Nature Brewing of Hamilton won in the IPA category, which saw 88 entries.
